تأتي النسخة الثالثة من معرض كتاب أوتاوا 2026 لتؤكد أن الكتاب العربي لم يعد ضيفًا عابرًا في العاصمة الكندية، بل حضورًا متجذرًا يتسع عامًا بعد عام. فبعد النجاح الذي حققته الدورتان السابقتان، وما شهدتاه من إقبال واضح من القارئ العربي المتعطش لكتب جديدة ومتنوعة، يعود المعرض هذا العام بروحٍ أكبر ورؤيةٍ أوضح: أن نقرّب الكتاب من الناس، وأن نجعل القراءة فعلًا يوميًا يليق بمدينةٍ متعددة الثقافات مثل أوتاوا.
ونستلهم في هذه الدورة شعارًا يلخّص معنى المعرض كلّه: “إذًا، علينا أن نقرأ“، وهي فكرة تتردد في كتابات إدوارد سعيد حين يربط القراءة بالفهم العميق للعالم وبالوعي الثقافي والمعرفي.
بهذه الروح، نقيم المعرض في يومي السبت والأحد 16 و17 مايو 2026، في قاعتي A وB من مركز Nepean Sportsplex، ليكون اللقاء مساحةً مفتوحة تجمع القرّاء والناشرين والمبدعين، وتمنح العائلات والأصدقاء فرصة لاكتشاف عناوين جديدة، واقتناء الكتب، وبناء علاقة أجمل مع اللغة والهوية والمعرفة.
ويشارك في المعرض عدد كبير من الناشرين العرب في كندا، إلى جانب موزعي الكتب والمكتبات الذين يعملون بجد لتوفير أكبر قدر ممكن من الإصدارات الحديثة، في مجالات الأدب والرواية والشعر، والفكر والتاريخ، والتنمية والعلوم الإنسانية، وكتب الأطفال والناشئة، وغيرها من الاهتمامات التي تعكس تنوّع ذائقة القارئ العربي اليوم. والهدف ليس البيع فقط، بل خلق لحظة ثقافية حقيقية، يشعر فيها الزائر أن الكتاب قريب منه، وأن الوصول إليه ممكن ومبهج وبسيط.
كما يتضمن المعرض برنامجًا أدبيًا وفنيًا مصاحبًا يضيف للكتب حياةً أخرى عبر لقاءات وحوارات مع كتّاب ومبدعين من المجتمع، وقراءات شعرية تحتفي بالصوت العربي في المهجر، وأنشطة فنية وثقافية تقرّب اللغة من الناس وتفتح باب المشاركة، إلى جانب مساحات تفاعلية مخصصة للعائلات والأطفال، لأن قارئ الغد يبدأ من اليوم، ولأن الكتاب حين يصل إلى البيت يصل معه ضوءٌ جديد.
في النهاية، هذا المعرض ليس مجرد سوق للكتاب، بل موعد سنوي للانتماء والمعنى. فرصة لنتقاطع حول فكرة بسيطة لكنها قوية: أن المعرفة حق، وأن القراءة جسر، وأن الكتاب العربي يستحق أن يكون حاضرًا في قلب المدينة كما هو حاضر في قلوبنا. ننتظركم لنكتب معًا فصلًا جديدًا من حكاية القراءة في أوتاوا.
The third edition of the Ottawa Kitab Book Fair 2026 arrives with a clear purpose: to strengthen the place of the Arabic book in Canada’s capital and to keep widening its reach in Ottawa. After the strong public turnout in the past two editions, and the unmistakable enthusiasm of Arabic readers looking for fresh titles across genres and interests, this year’s fair returns with more momentum and a sharper vision. It is not only a place to buy books, but a cultural meeting point where reading feels accessible, alive, and worth gathering around.
For this edition, we carry a guiding line inspired by Edward Said’s call to read with attention, depth, and responsibility: “We must therefore read.” Said’s work repeatedly frames reading as an act of awareness and engagement with what is present, and what has been pushed to the margins
In that spirit, the fair will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 16 and 17, 2026, welcoming visitors in Halls A and B at the Nepean Sportsplex.
A large group of Arabic-language publishers in Canada, alongside book distributors and dedicated bookstores, will take part in the fair, working to bring a wide range of new releases directly to Ottawa. Visitors can expect a rich selection spanning fiction, poetry, thought and history, humanities, personal development, and children’s books, reflecting the diversity of today’s Arabic reader and the many ways Arabic literature continues to grow across borders.
Alongside the book exhibition, the fair will also feature a supporting literary and artistic program designed to give the books another kind of presence through curated conversations and community encounters. The program will include author talks and cultural dialogues, poetry moments that celebrate the Arabic voice in the diaspora, artistic and participatory activities that bring language closer to everyday life, and family-friendly spaces where children can discover reading as a joyful habit, not an obligation.
At its heart, this is not simply a marketplace. It is a yearly cultural appointment shaped by belonging and meaning: a space that says knowledge is a shared right, that reading is a bridge, and that the Arabic book deserves to be present in the city’s cultural pulse.
